Mastering Mashes

If your baby has been experimenting with pureed foods for about a month now, it’s time to up the ante!

If you introduced solids at 6 months, your baby will be about 7 months now.. if you started a little earlier, say 4 months, your baby may be about 5 months now..

You can now start to introduce foods from ALL of the food groups, keeping them at a pureed / mashed/ lumpy consistency.

Aim for 3 meals a day with about 1/3 to 1/2 a cup at each meal, with breast milk / formula AFTER solids.

Cereals: try weet-bix and porridge Fruit: mashed banana, pear, apple Vegetable: mashed pumpkin, potato, carrot, broccoli, zucchini Meat/ protein: minced meat, scrambled egg, scrambled tofu or mashed soft legumes Dairy: yoghurt, custard, cottage cheese

Don’t forget – your baby needs hydration too! Aim for 600ml water (boiled and cooled).
